James M. Hood - Attorney at Law

James M. Hood was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1945, where he obtained his education through high school. He attended Drake University and obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1967 and his juris doctor in 1970.

James Hood served with the United States Navy in Vietnam. While recovering from injuries, he met his wife, Sherrie, at the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. They were married in 1973. They are proud of their two children, James and Grace. James is obtaining his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota. Grace graduated from Bryn Maur College and lives in Boulder, Colorado, where she is a reporter for The Boulder Weekly.

The recreational passion of the Hood family is backpacking. There have been several trips to the Brooks Mountain Range in Gates of the Arctic National Park. The trips extend for over two weeks. They involve hiking with packs and sleeping in tents on the tundra. At the law firm of James Hood, the beauty of Alaska is displayed in the office.

The newest member of the family is Angelena. She is a Portugese Water Dog. She competes in agility, obedience, water work and tracking. Occasionally she greets people at the office.

Staff

Annette Roby has been Mr. Hood's legal assistant since April of 1988. For over fifteen years, she has assisted people with their workers' compensation and personal injury cases.

Annette is a life-long resident of the Quad Cities. She is married to James Roby and has two children, Alaynna and Jameson. She and her husband are very active with their children in school and sports. In fact, in the Roby household, sports is life. Her children participate in softball, baseball, wrestling and football. Alaynna is a pitcher for the Midwest Sluggers A.S.A. Softball Team. Her son, Jameson, plays for the Moline Blackhawks traveling baseball team, wrestles through Moline High School and plays football for Assumption Rising Knights.

Marcy Bales has been with the firm since September of 2002. As the office secretary, she is the person who answers the phone and greets the clients.

Marcy is the mother of three children and has four grandchildren. Marcy is very proud of her children and considers them her finest achievement. In her spare time she likes to volunteer at local community theatres and at Scott Community College with their theatre programs (her Alma Mater). She is a calligrapher, amateur photographer and closet thespian. She considers Angelena as her "grand-dog" - who she gets to spoil and send home.
